What is Creative Kids?
The NSW Government is helping kids get creative with the Creative Kids program.
Parents, guardians and carers can apply for a voucher with a value of up to $100 per calendar year for each school-enrolled child aged 4.5 to 18 years.

Creative Kids: Full day program
Designed for visitors who love to get creative aged 8 to 14, this Creative Kids program provides an opportunity to practice their drawing skills and learn about Aboriginal traditional art forms.
What to expect
- 8:45am sign-in and orientation
- Receive sketch pad, pencil, books and painting kit
- Meet and greet with some native animals
- Introduction to basics of drawing and techniques
- Live drawings of zoo animals with assistance from a Sydney Zoo artist
- Aboriginal cultural art experience with Indigenous guides
- Lunch provided
- Pick up at 3pm at the front of the zoo

Creative Kids: Culture kids
This hands-on program explores traditional Aboriginal culture guided by our Sydney Zoo Culture Team. Participants will learn about Aboriginal art, traditional tools and weapons, learn how to weave with plants and work together to build a gunyah.
What to expect
- 12:45pm sign-in and orientation
- A take home craft item
- Introduction to Aboriginal art and the process of creating art through traditional methods using ochre
- Aboriginal cultural art experience with Indigenous guides
- Admission to the zoo for the day included for participants

Creative Kids: Learn to draw
Creative Kids will receive a sketch pad, pencil and will learn to draw animals with a Sydney Zoo artist. The program goes through the basics of how to break down animal shapes, shading and adding colour.
What to expect

- Meet and greet with zookeepers
- Introduction to basics of drawing and techniques
- Live drawings of zoo animals with assistance from a Sydney Zoo artist
- All participants receive an art drawing pad, drawing pencil and book
- Admission to the zoo for the day for participants

This hands-on program explores traditional Aboriginal culture guided by Sydney Zoo’s Culture Team. Participants will learn traditional music and art symbols, crafts and how to build a gunyah.

- 10:15am sign-in and orientation
- A take home craft item
- Introduction to Aboriginal art and the process of creating art through traditional methods using ochre
- Aboriginal cultural art and music experience with Indigenous guides
- Admission to the zoo for the day included for participants

How to book

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- All participants must be comfortable in the presence of animals.
- Participants in the full day program should bring a hat, water bottle, and morning tea
- A Parent or Guardian must sign a waiver upon registering.
- Children can be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian on the 90-minute programs only. If a Parent or Guardian chooses to remain with the group, they must stay at a distance unless providing support to a participant who specifically requires it. The Parent or Guardian is not able to partake in the program but can watch from a short distance.
- If the child is unaccompanied for the time of the program, the Parent or Guardian must be at the meeting point for the end of the program to ensure prompt pick up.
- Participants must follow all instructions as given by the Sydney Zoo artist/teacher undertaking the Creative Kids program including but not limited to where to stand, not attempting to have contact with any animals unless under instruction to do so, remaining calm and quiet at all times within the program.
- The Creative Kids program is fully accessible, if a child requires additional support, please include these details in your registration email to ensure our artist is aware before the start of the program.
- Sydney Zoo is open in wet weather conditions; in fact, some animals enjoy the wet weather! Sydney Zoo reserves the right to cancel the encounter in extreme weather conditions.
