STAGE 2

Earth's Environment - Caring for Country

Students will explore native bush tucker plants, engage with traditional tools, weapons and resources and meet Kutukulung, the long-necked turtle.  Students will learn from First Nations educators how they can play a key role through everyday actions to protect long-necked turtles and their habitats.

Food and fibre

Through live demonstrations and exploring traditional artefacts students will gain an understanding of how plants and animals were sustainably used for food, fibre, tools, weapons, and medicines.

Traditional art

This hands-on workshop explores traditional Aboriginal art with a focus on ochre painting. In this session students will learn about how Aboriginal art was used as a communication and recording tool. Students will also gain the practical experience of creating art through traditional methods.

People, places and colonisation

People, places and colonisation explores the deep attachment and bond for Aboriginal people to their Country, families and peoples and the effects of colonisation. This is delivered in a culturally sensitive and respectful way.

This 90-minute program explores the Aquarium and surrounding habitats with your Sydney Zoo teacher. There is allocated time for morning tea for the earliest sessions.

The Earth's Environment: Rivers to Reefs

Take a deep dive in to how we can protect our precious waterways. Students will make observations, hear stories, participate in hands on activities and leave with a deeper understanding of how they can make a difference from rivers to reefs.
