Excursion Programs

EARLY STAGE 1

Traditional music and dance​

This interactive workshop gets your students up and moving as they learn about the traditional creative arts. Students will learn about traditional musical instruments, such as the didgeridoo and clapsticks, and explore the sounds they make. They will also gain an understanding of traditional dance movements and the stories behind them.

Food and fibre

Through live demonstrations and exploring traditional artefacts students will gain an understanding of how plants and animals were sustainably used for food, fibre, tools, weapons, and medicines.

Kinship and families

Our Sydney Zoo Aboriginal guides will explain the complexities within family and kinship systems. Students will learn that families are varied and different, while also learning the importance of place to communities.

Living things at Sydney Zoo

What do we notice about living things?

Sydney Zoo’s NEW program will take students on an adventure through the Asian and African precincts with Sydney Zoo’s expert educators! Get hands on with learning about living things – be strong like an elephant, learn to hide like a phasmid and dance like an ostrich!

This workshop will run for approximately 90 minutes exploring the Africa and Asia precincts with your Sydney Zoo teacher. There is allocated time for morning tea for the earliest sessions.
