Why do I have to choose a visit date and arrival time?
We are limiting numbers by day (capacity limits include daily member limits) and at each session to avoid excessive crowding, and to guarantee everyone has an amazing day out at our zoo.
What does arrival time mean?
The arrival time you select is the time you should arrive at the zoo. There are no limits on how long you stay at the zoo once you arrive.
How can I change or reschedule my visit date?
Easy! You can reschedule up until 11.59pm the day before your visit date. Simply follow the reschedule link in your confirmation email or click here and enter your name and the reservation number from your confirmation email and select another available visit date.
Do you offer concession tickets?
We offer concession rates for the following:
Valid identification must be provided at the ticket desk or express entry on arrival. Photo ID may also be required. Please have your cards ready for easy entry. These discounts are only available to the card holder, all other visitors (including other names on the card) will pay regular ticket prices.
I am a carer, do I get discounted entry?
We accept the companion card which grants free entry for carers if a concession ticket is purchased for the person being cared for.
What age children get free entry?
Children bellow the age of 3 have free entry to the zoo and do not require a ticket or booking.
Does Sydney Zoo offer Afterpay or Zip Pay?
Sydney Zoo does not currently offer any form of Afterpay or Zip Pay.
Can I upgrade my Day Pass to an Annual Membership?
Yes, if you've purchased a Sydney Zoo Day Pass, you can upgrade it to an Annual Membership (Unlimited Pass or Membership) by paying only the difference between the Day Pass price and the Annual Membership price. In other words, the cost of your Day Pass is credited towards your membership purchase.
This is a great option if you visit and decide you'd like to come back throughout the year, as your first visit effectively counts towards the cost of becoming a member.

Can I come to Sydney Zoo without a booking?
Yes, you can visit Sydney Zoo without booking in advance and purchase your tickets at the gate, provided the zoo hasn't reached its capacity for the day. However, booking online is recommended because:

How do I purchase an Unlimited Pass or Platinum Pass?
Simply choose an Unlimited Pass or Platinum Pass online, select the number of guests and the first date you plan on visiting Sydney Zoo.
What does the Unlimited Pass include?
An Unlimited Pass includes 12 months unlimited entry to Sydney Zoo, no joining fee and free parking. PLUS, enjoy 10% discount on all encounters, food, beverage and retail purchases.
What does the Platinum Pass include?
A Platinum Pass includes 12 months unlimited entry to Sydney Zoo, no joining fee, free parking, 1x Sydney Zoo cap, a bring a friend ticket (1x FREE day ticket, $25 off first animal encounter voucher and 10% off on all encounters, food, beverage and retail purchases.
When does my Unlimited Pass or Platinum Pass start?
Each pass is valid for 365 days from the date purchased.
What sort of photo do I need to upload?
We recommend a passport/ portrait style photo for each individual pass holder. Please refer to photo reference guidelines in the My Account portal.
What if I’ve lost my booking confirmation email?
You can access your pass anytime by signing in to the My Account portal.
Do I need to book future visits?
Yes. We are limiting numbers each day to avoid excessive crowding. This means that you’ll need to re-book future visits online via the My Account portal.
How do I edit my account details?
Simply log in to the My Account portal to update photos, contact details, and more.
How do I renew my pass or membership?
All primary account holders will receive a notification via email, SMS and My Account portal 30 - 45 days out from the expiry date. Simply log in to your My Account portal of your current membership and follow the prompts to renew.
When will my renewed membership take effect?
Your renewed membership will take effect from the date of purchase. Any days remaining on your current membership will be added.
What happens if I do nothing?
If you do not manually renew your pass or membership by the expiry date, and you still hold valid payment details linked in your account, you will be automatically renewed.
How do I cancel?
If you are within your pass or membership expiry, you can cancel ay any time, however, no refunds will be provided.
If you do not wish to automatically renew at the time of your current expiry, and you have payment details saved in your My Account Portal, please login to your My Account portal and click 'Cancel Auto-Renewal'. You will not be automatically renewed if there are no payment details in your account. If at any time you need assistance with cancelling, please contact our team via members@sydneyzoo.com
How do I add or remove someone from my membership?
Please email members@sydneyzoo.com and one of our friendly team members will assist you. Any additional Pass or Membership holders, unless purchased at the same time, will have a different expiry and renewal date to the original purchased pass or membership. Note: Using the same email address for multiple Accounts purchased at different times will not automatically link the profiles.
My infant has now become a child, how can I update my membership?
Infants aged 0–2 years enjoy complimentary entry and no longer require an active membership. If you have an existing infant as part of your membership, our system will automatically recognise your child’s birthday and upgrade them to a child during the membership renewal process. When will my card be charged?
Your card will be charged on the day you manually renew your pass or membership or on the expiry date if automatic renewals are enabled in your account. Any days remaining on your current membership will be added to your new membership.
Are memberships transferable?
Memberships are not transferable. If you need to change the names or setup of your existing membership, please contact us before renewing.
Why do you securely store my credit card details?
We securely encrypt your payment details for the purpose of annual rebilling, as per the membership terms and conditions. You can delete your payment details via the Member portal at any time, which will cancel future automatic membership renewals.
Can I use a gift voucher to pay for my new membership?
Yes! Simply log in to the member portal and follow the prompts to renew. You can then add your gift voucher code to the cart at checkout.
Can I make changes to my membership once the 12 months has commenced?
As memberships are non transferable and cannot be shared, changes, including names, or ticket type, can only be made upon renewal by contacting our team. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact us at members@sydneyzoo.com and we will review your situation.
I'm not comfortable uploading a photo of my child onto your system, what do I do?
As memberships are non transferable and cannot be shared, a profile photo is required for all Members including children. Should you not wish for this to occur, you have the option to cancel your child's membership and pay for a single entry ticket upon each visit.

What gift voucher types are available?
Gift vouchers are available in incremental values or as a custom value. Gift voucher recipients can redeem the value of their gift voucher for any ticket type, animal encounter or in the zoo at our restaurant, cafes, zoo shop, and other points of sale.
Can I purchase more than one gift voucher?
You can purchase multiple gift vouchers in one transaction. Just add the gift vouchers you want to purchase to your cart and complete your transaction. You will receive a separate email for each gift voucher.
How do I redeem my gift voucher?
Go to sydneyzoo.com, choose a product to purchase, then enter your gift voucher code in the voucher field at the checkout. Yes, if you would like to send a gift voucher directly to a recipient, please tick ‘Would you like to email your vouchers to a recipient as an eGift?’ when completing your booking details. A receipt and copy of the gift voucher will be sent to you via email, while your recipient will receive a separate email containing the gift voucher. What happens to any residual amount on my gift voucher after I’ve made an online purchase?

How do I get to Sydney Zoo?
We will be accessible by car or public transport. We have excellent access to the M4 and M7 Motorways and will offer on-site parking.
How much is parking?
All parking at Sydney Zoo is FREE in our on-site car park.
What are your opening hours?
We are open every day from 9am – 4pm.
Can I leave the zoo and re-enter on the same day?

Is the zoo suitable for guests with a disability?
Sydney Zoo is 100% accessible – there will be no part of the Zoo that is off-limits to those in wheelchairs or those who require walking assistance. We’ve also made sure we’ve included wide pathways that span across the Zoo.

What course/s should I study if I want to work as a Zookeeper at Sydney Zoo?
The minimum requirement to work with our animals is Certificate III in Wildlife & Exhibited Animal Care. From there, you can go on to complete higher certificates or a university degree in Zoology or Animal Science.

A private hired space for 1 hour, set up with decorated tables, where you and your guests can enjoy lunch and cake (BYO). Birthday party packages are suited for children aged from 3-15.

Your Sydney Zoo Party hire includes a dedicated staff member to assist with the pick up of the lunch order, help to assist with any reptile encounter add ons, and the cutting of the cake and distributing to guests. This staff member will be spread across all parties and are not there to provide entertainment for your party guests.
Can I extend or customise a package with add-ons like animal encounters or extra guests?
Yes, you can add on a Koala or Reptile encounter, or a VR theatre experience for $10-$12 per head.

Can we combine more than one workshop?

Does the workshop cost include admission to Sydney Zoo?

How long does a typical excursion program run?
Most schools arrive between 9.15 and 10am, staying until 1.30-2pm. During that time, schools can explore through a self guided visit or spend part of their day doing workshops.
Does Sydney Zoo provide a run sheet for the day for when we are not in our workshop?
No, this is up to you, but we do have suggestions available so that you can prioritise seeing certain parts of the zoo before your workshop.
What is the required student-to-supervisor ratio for a school excursion?
Our requirement is adequate active supervision. We provide 1:5 staff attending free for primary and preschool, and 1:10 for high school groups.
Are teachers and parent helpers free of charge?
Up to 1:5 preschool and primary ratio and 1:10 for high school are free of charge.
Groups with additional needs are exempt and can bring higher numbers of free attending teachers and helpers.
Are there programs available for early childhood or preschool groups?
Yes, we deliver a wide range of early childhood programs.
Do you cater for students with disabilities or additional learning needs?
Yes, we even have some tactile kits for schools to borrow during their visit and we can alter our programs to better suit your students needs.
Are vacation care groups able to book education programs?
Currently we only offer self-guided bookings for vacation care bookings.
How do I book an education program, and how far in advance should I plan?
Fill out our bookings form here and if there are any specific requirements please add these to the form and we'll do our best to accommodate. We recommend booking in early to avoid disappointment especially if you're seeking dates in term 2 and 3.
What is the cost per student, and are there concession rates available?
Student rates are $18 for self-guided, $21 for First Nations 60 minute programs and $25 for 90+minute Living World focussed programs. There is a minimum of 20 students per workshop and maximum of 30.
Are there discounts for low socio-economic schools?

Is there a designated area for groups to have lunch during an excursion?
We do not have a designated area, however there are many picnic and open grassed areas that are available to eat in throughout the zoo.
Is there a place to leave student bags for the day?
No, we recommend students bring small backpacks with only essentials as they will need to carry them.
Can teachers or group leaders do a pre-visit to plan for the excursion?
Yes, please reach out to our education team at education@sydneyzoo.com to arrange a complimentary pre-visit to plan your excursion.
What happens if it rains?
We will continue all workshops and adjust any programming into more sheltered spaces within the zoo while still providing an exciting workshop experience for students and teachers. If the forecast appears dangerous the education team will reach out to reschedule. Schools can reschedule if they feel the weather forecast is not ideal for their visit.
Are resources such as pre-visit or post-visit materials provided for teachers?
Yes, there is a suite of teacher toolkits, student workbooks, a social story and video you can use before or after your visit. You can view them on our resources page here.
Is there a maximum group size per education session?
Typically a maximum of 30, however if we need to expand this due to large numbers or limited available workshops we can make exceptions up to 35.
Do students with a yearly pass need to pay to attend with their school?
Yes, all students attending as part of your school booking will need to be included in your final numbers. Our Annual Memberships terms and conditions state school excursions are not included in yearly passes.

Yes, depending on your event time and package, guests may enjoy zoo access during operating hours. Animal encounters and behind-the-scenes experiences can also be added to your event for an additional fee, subject to availability.

Yes, we can assist with theming and décor through our trusted suppliers, or you are welcome to engage your own stylist or decorator, subject to venue guidelines.
Is there a minimum spend or minimum guest number for private event hire?
Minimum spends and guest numbers vary depending on the venue, event date and style of function. Our Events Team can provide options tailored to your requirements.
How far in advance do I need to enquire about booking a function?
We recommend enquiring as early as possible to secure your preferred date and venue. However, we also welcome last-minute enquiries and will do our best to accommodate your event, subject to availability.
Is there a dedicated events manager to help plan my function?
Yes, we deliver a wide range of early childhood programs.
Do you cater for students with disabilities or additional learning needs?
Yes, from your initial enquiry through to the day of your event, you'll be supported by a dedicated Events Manager who will guide you through the planning process and ensure every detail is taken care of.
Can Sydney Zoo accommodate weddings or engagement events?
Yes. Sydney Zoo can accommodate weddings and engagement celebrations in selected event spaces. As each wedding is unique, additional styling, furniture and event hire items may be required to bring your vision to life.
What is included in an event hire package, and what needs to be arranged separately?
Our event hire packages include venue hire, standard furniture, event set-up, and support from our Events Team. Additional items such as styling, AV, lighting, staging, entertainment and specialty furniture can be arranged separately through our trusted suppliers at an additional cost.
What is the wet weather or cancellation policy for outdoor functions?
Many of our event spaces are outdoors and weather dependent. Where a suitable alternative is available, Sydney Zoo will endeavour to activate an agreed wet weather plan up to 24 hours before your event. Cancellation terms are outlined in your event agreement.
Are there accommodation options nearby for interstate or overnight event guests?
Yes, there are several accommodation options a short drive from Sydney Zoo, including Atura Blacktown, Novotel Sydney West HQ and Mercure Sydney Blacktown. Atura Blacktown also offers playful, zoo-themed rooms for a fun and immersive stay. In some cases, we may also be able to assist with securing discounted accommodation rates for event groups, subject to availability. Our Events Team can assist with recommendations based on your group size and budget.
Can we combine a corporate function with a team-building or animal experience activity?
Yes, corporate functions can be combined with a range of team-building and animal-based experiences, such as guided zoo tours, cultural workshops, scavenger hunts and animal encounters, subject to availability. These experiences can be tailored to suit your group and event objectives.
Are there any restrictions for styling or theming?
Yes. Confetti, glitter, streamers, rice, and balloons are not permitted within or around the Zoo grounds. Smoke machines, dry ice machines and electric fireworks are permitted in certain venue spaces only. Please speak with your Event Executive for more information.
Is Sydney Zoo accessible for guests with mobility requirements?
Yes. Sydney Zoo is designed with accessibility in mind, including accessible pathways, toilets and parking. Our Events Team can also assist with planning to ensure all guests can comfortably access your event space.
How do guests get to Sydney Zoo, and is public transport available?
Sydney Zoo is easily accessible by car and public transport, with major road connections and nearby metro and bus services. Complimentary on-site parking is also available for event guests. Our Events Team can also assist with arranging bus transport for your group if required.
Will animals be visible during evening or after-hours events?
Animal visibility varies depending on the time of day and species behaviour. While some animals may still be visible during evening events, sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Can we include branding or corporate activations at our event?
Yes, branding and activations can be incorporated into your event, subject to approval and venue suitability. Our Events Team can advise on appropriate placement and options.
What are the payment terms for booking a function?
A deposit is required to confirm your booking, with the remaining balance due prior to the event date. Full payment terms will be outlined in your event proposal and agreement.
Can I arrange a site inspection before booking?
Yes, site inspections are encouraged and can be arranged by appointment with our Events Team to help you select the most suitable space for your event.
Do you offer group discounts, and what is the minimum group size to qualify?
Yes, Sydney Zoo offers group discounts for a minimum of 15 paid visitor entries.
How do I make a group booking enquiry?

Can group bookings be invoiced rather than paid upfront?
Yes, they can. However, please note that invoice payments have a strict no refunds policy for any group members unable to attend on the date of visit. Payment is also required at least 7 days prior to booking date and a remittance must be sent to tickets@sydneyzoo.com
Is there a dedicated group sales coordinator I can speak with?

Can I book a mix of adult and child tickets in a single group booking?
Yes, of course! We also offer Concession prices for group bookings.
Are there special rates for seniors, concession holders, or carers within a group?

Can groups arrange a self-guided visit, or is a facilitated experience recommended?
Group bookings are self guided only, we currently do not offer personalised tours for standard groups.
Is there a reserved entry time or dedicated entry point for large groups?
Groups can arrive at any time from 9am up until 1 hour from close. All visitors purchased under a group rate must all arrive and enter together. Please present to the Groups check in desk on arrival.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy for group bookings?
While refunds are not available for group bookings, you can reschedule your visit. Please notify our Contact Centre prior to visit date.
Can I hold a group booking reservation while I confirm final numbers?
We do not require tentative bookings.
Are there group packages that include food and beverage or animal experiences?

Do you offer discounted rates for not-for-profit, community, or charity groups?
Our group booking rates are at a discounted rate already, we do not offer further discounts.

Is there a limit to how large a group can be for a single visit day?
Our capacity is quite large in Zoo and with over 1000 car spots we encourage carpooling for groups larger than 3,000 people where possible.
How do I distribute tickets to a large group once a booking is confirmed?

Can group bookings be made for specific seasonal events like GLOW or Ice Age?
For our daytime activations we offer group bookings, however we only offer GLOW group bookings to limited groups. Please email tickets@sydneyzoo.com with your requirements.
Are there group-friendly facilities on-site such as large meeting areas or covered spaces?
Yes, there are covered spaces and large areas for groups to meet. Some spaces do require a hire fee so please check with our Contact Centre at tickets@sydneyzoo.com
Is there bus/ coach parking?
Yes, we have a designated drop off/pick up zone at the entrance and parking for coaches in our car park.
