Coelodonta antiquitatis – "Ancient Hollow Tooth"

Woolly Rhinos looked similar to modern rhinos, but were covered in a thick double layer of fur to protect them from freezing Ice Age temperatures.

They were among the most heavily furred animals of their time. Woolly Rhinos also had a specially shaped, flattened horn that may have helped them sweep away snow to reach low-growing plants, much like Woolly Mammoths.

When humans arrived in what is now northern Russia, they hunted Woolly Rhinos for food and used their fur for warmth. First Peoples also depicted them in cave art, some of which is still being discovered today.
