Science Week 2026

Dive into this years theme: "Seeds of science: nurturing knowledge for all" at Sydney Zoo's Science Week event! Schools have the opportunity to book in for a science focused excursion like no other and show students how even the smallest idea can turn into something world changing. 

Students and teachers can join Sydney Zoo for an exciting adventure in conservation science through the Discovery Trail and uncover how innovation is helping protect wildlife across the globe. Students will become wildlife detectives and discover practical ways to conserve nature in their own backyard.
Get hands-on and explore real-world science and innovation at the Innovation Hub with free activities provided by Sydney Zoo and leading conservation and scientific organisations that are visiting for the week. 

 

When: August 17th to 21st

 

What to expect?

 School excursions to Sydney Zoo during Science Week will include the following:

  • Science Week Discovery Trail map and activity sheet for every student
  • Exciting workshops everyday included in your science week excursion*
  • Discover how to become a citizen scientist
  • Free activities and displays all day from Monday to Friday at the Innovation Hub

 

*Workshop topics will include animal adaptations, zoo of poo, investigating nature, caring for Country and more. They will be delivered by Zoo teachers as well as experts from a range of other agencies and education institutions. The timetable will be confirmed by Term 2 2026  and will be communicated with schools that have booked.
One workshop per student can be booked. 
Schools can choose not to book a workshop and just explore the zoo as a self-guided visit. 
Workshops can be booked for any stage and will be adjusted to the level of the students attending on the day.
