Become a Zookeeper for a day!

For an animal-lover, there’s no better experience than our Accessible Zookeeper for a Day program. Learn what goes on behind the scenes at Sydney Zoo and Sydney Zoo and get hands-on experience feeding and caring for animals. With no hills or steps and wide pathways, Sydney Zoo is the perfect place for everyone. 

 Book early to avoid disappointment as only 8 participants and their carers per day will have the opportunity to partake in this program.

We now accept Active and Creative Kids vouchers for our Zookeeper for a day programs! To redeem, fill out the Experiences Booking Form and include the child’s date of birth and voucher number in the comments section. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • All participants must be comfortable in the presence of animals.
  • This program is designed for children that require a support person. This support person does not need to pay for the program but will need to enter Sydney Zoo with a ticket.
  • Companion card holders will access the zoo for free, non-companion card holders will be required to purchase an entry ticket to the zoo.
  • While Sydney zoo accepts companion animals under certain circumstances, certain aspects of this program are unsuitable for them. 
  • Children in a wheelchair are able to participate, the program is designed to be accessible to all.
  • What to bring: A sun hat, water bottle and morning or afternoon tea.
  • Weather requirements: This program only runs in good weather with dry ground – any clients who have wheelchairs would not be able to access some areas after rain. Postponement is likely if the weather is not ideal or a modification of the program if possible. Sydney Zoo will notify participants if this is the case.
  • Sydney Zoo reserves the right to cancel the encounter for any unseen circumstances. A reschedule date will be offered based on availability. 
  • Clothing requirements: Enclosed flat shoes.
  • Participants or their carers, will be required to agree to the program rules and sign a waiver form on the day.
